2002 - Grand Master Shoshin Nagamine Memorial Celebrations
Shihan Kevin Plaisted, Tim Herlihy and Bill Westphal represented Matsubayashi ryu New Zealand at the Shoshin Nagamine Memorial Demonstrations in Naha City, Okinawa.

A seminar, prior to the memorial event, was held at the Okinawan Prefectural Hall of Martial Arts.The seminar was conducted by Soke Takayoshi Nagamine, Kancho Yoshitaka Taira and Shihandai Nobuhide Higa.
This was an opportunity for Matsubayashi-ryu karateka, gathered from around the world, to correct, consolidate and sharpen their technique.
The kiwi trio were one of over forty separate displays featured at the memorial celebrating Matsubayashi-ryu kata, bunkai, kobudo and breaking techniques in honour of Grand Master Shoshin Nagamine.
Shihan Kevin, Tim and Bill demonstrated, as a New Zealand team, the kata Ananku and Wankan. Individually Kevin demonstrated Tomari Chinto and Tim demonstrated Bo kata, Shiromatsu no kon.
